NEMMCO Bryan Connell Terry Day Overview • NEMMCO was established in May 1996 to implement, administer and operate the wholesale NEM, continually improve its efficiency, and manage the security of the power system • NEMMCO operates on a self funding “Not for Profit” basis • In geographic terms, the NEM is the worlds longest transmission network, stretching from Cairns in northern Queensland to Hobart in Tasmania and Port Lincoln in South Australia. Approximately 4,600kilometres . • Operates at 500kV, 330kV, 275kV, 220kV, 132kV, 110kV and 66kV 200+ generating units ranging from 18MW to 700MW Approximately 7.7million customers Maximum demand of approximately 30,000MW Annual energy of 160,000GWh worth $8 billion. Split into 6 interconnected regions with single price per region. • • • • • Copyright © 2007 OSIsoft, Inc. Company Confidential. Company Confidential. All rights reserved. 8 Why PI - continued • Growing need for access to historical data for: – Control room operations – Power system event analysis and dispute resolution – Operations planning and forecasting – Power system performance analysis – Power system planning activities • Alternate vendor historical system was: – – – – Oracle based High capital cost Performance concerns Offered little on the client side Copyright © 2007 OSIsoft, Inc.
