Quality Education for a Healthier Scotland NES THEMES and OBJECTIVES Our Six Strategic Themes: education to create an excellent workforce improving quality reshaping the NHS workforce responding to new patient pathways developing innovative educational infrastructure delivering our aims through a connected organisation Our Ten Strategic Objectives: 01 Deliver consistent evidence based excellence in education for improved care. 02 Ensure best use of the Additional Costs of Teaching (ACT) funding. 03 Continue to build co-ordinated joint working and engagement with our partners. 04 Provide education in quality improvement for enhanced patient safety & people’s experience of services 05 Develop our support for workforce redesign. 06 Provide integrated education to support models of care which are closer to people in their communities. 07 Support education in partnership that maximises shared knowledge and understanding. 08 Develop flexible, connected and responsive educational infrastructure which covers people, technology and educational content. 09 Establish a performance structure which connects individual performance to our objectives. 10 Improve the sharing of knowledge across our organisation. Quality Education for a Healthier Scotland Strategic Outcomes A strategic outcome is a desired state or end result articulated through a clear and concise statement of the organisational change that needs to be made to deal with an identified issue. The strategic outcome will indicate the direction of change desired (increase, decrease, maintain) and will set out what, collectively, the organisation wants to achieve. Instead of referring to Strategic Objectives, we aim to publish clear statements or OUTCOMES that we will achieve over the life of the refreshed strategy. We promote learning that is motivational, aspirational and meaningful to everyday work. We enable personalisation of learning so that it is adaptable to different needs and styles. We build our activities on evidence based practice to avoid duplication and promote collaboration. We achieve regulatory or other standards and we innovate to achieve more. We support broad-based education that meet the needs of the workforce and can be adapted to different circumstances. We deliver education close to the workplace that brings people together to improve outcomes. We evaluate the effectiveness of our education and share the lessons learned widely. We enable sharing, transfer and delivery of educational best practice and improvement tools across the workforce. Outcome 2: – A workplace learning environment which is fit for purpose and where there is excellent access to education for healthcare staff. Outcome 3: – Flexible access to a broad range of quality improvement education in the workplace to build improvement capacity and capability in support of safe, effective and person centred care. Outcome 4: – National leadership and management development that enables positive change and the values and behaviours expected of staff. Outcome 5: – An authoritative and credible national role in analysis, information and modelling for the whole NHSScotland workforce to help strengthen workforce planning. Outcome 6: – A range of development opportunities for support workers and new and extended roles, to maximise their contribution to improved prevention, anticipation and supported self management. Outcome 7: – Improved use of technology through a consistent approach to how we provide our digital services with measureable outcomes for learning, user satisfaction, accessibility and impact. Outcome 8: – Consistently well developed and supported educational support roles and networks to enable education for all staff across the workplace learning environment. Outcome 9: – An efficient and effective organisation where our staff are supported to give their best and achieve their potential, and where our values and ways of working are evident in everyday practice.
