PUBLISHER Purpose of Course To support the student in learning to how to do Desktop Publishing using Microsoft Publisher Presented by John D Mudie with the support of Stephanie Muhammad. OBJECTIVE There will be a competition for the best piece of ArtWork and a small prize for the winner. DESIGNING PUBLICATIONS FOR THE WEB Make a link to a website. Make a link to send an e-mail Save your publication as single file web file. Show it as a web-page in a browser. Save and Print your file. WEBSITE NAME AND USEAGE You can get to the class website by typing the address http://www.rlccomputer.com into the address bar of Internet Explorer and then pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. The current day's classes are listed on front page. Click the Working with Text in Publisher entry if its there. If its not there then click on Courses on the main page. Then select Publisher Curriculum and click on it's entry. Find the entry for Designing Publications for the Web and click on it to get to this page. There is a reference copy in your Computer Lab Microsoft Office 2010 for Dummies by Wallace Wang contains simplified help for Access ,Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word and is also in the lab. A way of getting help is to go into Google and put in key words describing your problem and see what Google can find in the way of solutions to your problem which most probably other people have experienced before you RETRIEVE YOUR ART WORK FROM LAST WEEK Open file MyArtWork6 from your Flash Drive or Google Drive. See to learn how to use a Flash Drives. See How to use Google Drive to learn how to use the Google Drive. If you don't have any ArtWork from the last lesson then Click here to open up the download Choose Save As MyArtWork7 on your Desktop Click on Save Click on Open DEMONSTRATION OF CREATING A LINK TO A WEBSITE. Download MyArtWork6 if its not already there, Save it onto the desktop as MyArtWork6.pub to open Publisher Click here Browse and open MyArtWork6 on Desktop Create a link to t-mha.org. MAKE A LINKS ON A WEBSITE. Before this assignment, you may want to review the Lynda.com movie on the subject called Inserting hyperlinks. Insert the words, Click here to visit Transitions website, into a text box on your Art Work. Then select the text In the Insert tab click on the HyperLink icon in the Links group. In the pop-up box, type in htttp://www.t-mha.org in the Address box. Click on OK. INSTRUCTOR WILL DEMONSTRATE CREATING AN E-MAIL LINK Download MyArtWork6 if its not already there, Save as onto the desktop as MyArtWork6.pub to open Publisher Click Browse and open MyArtWork6 on Desktop . MAKE A LINK TO SEND AN E-MAIL Before this assignment, you may want to review the Lynda.com movie on the subject called Inserting hyperlinks. In your Art Work , make a text box insert the words For more info email us and select the words e-mail us in the text box. In the Insert tab, in the Links group ,click on HyperLink Click on the e-mail address icon on the left of the popup box In the e-mail address: box type in [email protected] Click on OK. Notice how an underline signifying a link has appeared. INSTRUCTOR WILL DEMONSTRATE SAVING PUBLISHER DOCUMENT AS WEB PAGE Click Here to open Publisher again Open up MyArtwork 7 on desktop Click on Save As in the File tab. Change your directory so that it is on your flash drive or desktop. Click on the drop down opposite Save type as: and click on Single File Web Page. Name it Art Work7.mht Click on Save and the publication is saved in web format on your flash drive or desktop Close Publisher. SAVE YOUR PUBLICATION AS SINGLE FILE WEB FILE. Click on Save As in the File tab. Change your directory so that it is on your flash drive or desktop. Click on the drop down opposite Save type as: and click on Single File Web Page. Name it Art Work7.mht Click on Save and the publication is saved in web format on your flash drive or desktop INSTRUCTOR WILL DEMONSTRATE SHOWING ARTWORK AS A WEB PAGE here to open up Internet Explorer Click Browse to MyArtwork 7 on desktop Open it Click on website link and open it Close it Click on e-mail link Try to send an e-mail Close IE to return to Power Point SHOW IT AS A WEB-PAGE IN A BROWSER. Minimize Publisher and go to where you saved it Click on Art Work.mht It should open in Internet Explorer Click on the word website in your Art Work. The Transitions website should open up. Click on e-mail us and it will try to send a message. CLEAN UP YOUR ART WORK Clean up your Art Work for a presentation to the class at the next session SAVE YOUR ART WORK. Save your Art Work Your publication should now look like this Save it to your Flash Drive or Google Drive as MyArtWork7 See to learn how to use a Flash Drives. PRINT YOUR ART WORK Print out the page by typing in Ctrl-P (Hold down Ctrl key and press P) and then Print Please print your name and date on it and turn it into the instructor by the end of next week THE END Thanks for coming to this class.
