TODAY – RESEARCH, DAY 3 • Today is all about research. • In partners or groups = article, poetry, and literary criticism • Each box should have 2-5 bullets, depending on the source and information presented. • Success Criteria: – Check plus = all boxes filled out with legit info completely. – Check = mix of a few bullets with completely filled boxes – Check minus = each box has minimum bullets and/or no info OTHER SOURCES OF RESEARCH • Read and T2T pages 351-356 – “Introduction to The New Negro” by Alain Locke (1925) – To Usward by Gwendolyn B. Bennett (1924) – Lift Every Voice and Sing by James Weldon Johnson – Excerpt from “On ‘From the Dark Tower’” by Eugenia W. Collier • Read the poems out loud with your partner/group • Share the most important information you got from these works. GROUP WORK • Work with your group to complete both the “Informational Text” and “Poetry” columns. • You are looking for historical context, ideas/aspects of the Harlem Renaissance, genres/styles of the Harlem Renaissance artists and writers, and specific authors/works of the movement. • Remember to have 2-5 bullets per box (check) OR fill each box with legitimate information (check plus) INFORMAL ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY, ROUND TWO • After your last entry, create an annotated bibliography entry for today’s best source. Purpose: Remind yourself of the source when you go to write your essay in a month and a half • Record the information from the source you’re choosing from today (creator, title, page(s)) • Write a short paragraph with the following information: – A one sentence summary of the source – 2-3 of the best facts, details, connections or inferences from the source – 2-3 sentences evaluating how useful this source was to your background building and how helpful it will be to help you write your essay
