CIGRÉ is the Conseil International
des Grands Reseaux Electriques—
The International Council On
Large Electric Systems
• Founded in Paris in 1921 as a
worldwide non-profit association.
Concept of J. Tribot Laspiere
(France) and Frederic Attwood
(USA). (Attwood-- first president
of the USNC in 1921.)
• Mission: Develop and distribute
technical knowledge and
information internationally
regarding large electric systems.

New Organization — 2002
• The technical activities are managed by 16 Study Committees
coordinated by the CIGRE Technical Committee
• More than 250 working bodies, mainly Working Groups (57%)
and Task Forces (32%) conduct studies and produce reports,
usually in a three year time frame.
• The main subjects are illustrated by the most recent creations
of new Study Committees, in these domains:
• Equipment domain (A)
• Infrastructure domain (B)
• System and electricity market domain (C)
• Supporting technologies domain (D)
