The Purpose of this course is to support the student in learning to how to do Desktop Publishing using Microsoft Publisher Students will be asked to create a flyer for the upcoming Thanksgiving event. There will be a competition for the best flyer and a small prize for the winner. Presented by John Mudie, Ph.D., C,P.R.P. Website Name and Useage You can get to the class website by typing the address http://www.rlccomputer.com into the address bar of Internet Explorer and then pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. The current day's classes are listed on front page. Click the Intro to Publisher entry if its there. If its not there then click on Courses on the main page. Then select Publisher Curriculum and click on it's entry. Find the entry for Intro to Publisher and click on it to get to this page. Reference Material We will be using Microsoft Publisher 2010 Introductory by Shelly and Starks as a class text book. There is a reference copy in your Computer Lab Microsoft Office 2010 for Dummies by Wallace Wang contains simplified help for Access ,Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word and is also in the lab. A way of getting help is to go into Google and put in key words describing your problem and see what Google can find in the way of solutions to your problem which most probably other people have experienced before you. E.g. earn money, get a job …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… …. ** At least 30 words some ideas you have for a flyer advertising a Thanksgiving Event at your recovery center. ____________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________ Open up Publisher To get into Publisher, click on the Start button in the lower left corner of the screen, the Start menu should appear. In the box with Search Programs and Files, type in Publisher. Windows then searches for file names containing the word Publisher. The Publisher Icon labelled Microsoft Publisher 2010 should appear at the top of the list. Click on the Publisher Icon and the Microsoft Publisher will appear. Or you can follow the instructions on PUB 1 5 of Microsoft Publisher 2010 Introductory. Start your Thanksgiving Flyer The project for this class is to design a flyer for the Thanksgiving Event at your recovery center. There will be a competition for the best flyer and a small prize will be awarded by your recovery center manager for the flyer she deems best, You can start from a blank sheet Or you start at page PUB 5 of Microsoft Publisher 2010 Introductory and select a template suitable for your Publisher project and work your way through to page PUB 13 of Microsoft Publisher 2010 Introductory or you can use a template. In the blank search bar in the top right of the display type in the word event to get a list of all possible templates associated with events Then click on the magnifying glass and you will get a listing of all relevant templates. There are a lot!!! Find one you like and click on it. I choose Company Picnic. You can choose anyone you would like Click on Create at the bottom of the right side bar. Publisher will open up with the start of a flyer. Title your flyer Click where the title of the event will go and change it to something like Thanksgiving Event Check that your display looks something like here. There is a copy of this in your handout. Print and Save your flyer Print out the page by typing in Ctrl-P (Hold down Ctrl key and press P) and then Print Please print your name and date on it and turn it into the instructor by the end of next week.
