Number 34 18th July, 2013 Web site: www.stmatthews.cumbria.sch.uk I would like to thank everyone associated with St Matthew’s School for their constant help and support over the year. We have had an extremely successful year with a wide range of events and visits. This term our WW2 theme has been a real hit with children and staff and really fired children’s imagination. Our cream tea weekend was a truly memorable occasion and it was wonderful to see children, parents, governors, staff and community working together and supporting our school. It makes me really proud to be a part of this unique community. We raised £1080 over the weekend, with this money we are buying new reading books and literacy materials. I would like to thank everyone who helped in any way, but especially to Gwen who donated all the cakes for our event, I’m sure you’ll agree she is one in a million. Another special thanks must go to the staff of the school who go above and beyond their duties to ensure our children are given the best possible education and care. This year we have been very fortunate to have Bill Asbury (Mr Bill) working in school. He has been a real inspiration for the children and I’m sure you’ll agreed the murals around school are truly amazing Look our for the photos in the Cumberland News this weekend. Thank you Mr Bill for everything. Our new nursery has gone from strength to strength with an extremely positive OFSTED report, the committed, staff have worked hard over the year and our new reception children in September are already familiar with routines and staff making a smooth transition for them. We will be sorry to lose Miss Stapley she has been a real asset to school and has developed her skills over her time with us. We all wish her well as she moves to her new post. We welcome Mrs Kate Vear back in September she will be working part time with both KS1 and KS2. Our year 6 children move onto their new schools in September and I would like to thank them for the support they have given, they should be proud of their achievements. They are a hard working group of children and we have been privileged to have had them in our school. So Adam, Joe, Jodie, Kieran and Leon we wish your every success for the future. Also many thanks to our dedicated bunch of governors, they have worked very quietly in the background keeping our school running smoothly. On a personal note I would just like to say to everyone one huge thank you. It has been a very different year for me but very rewarding. It would not have been possible without the commitment everyone gives to St Matthew’s School and I hope you all have an enjoyable Summer and that the sunshine continues. Mrs Satterthwaite. LAST DAY OF TERM – THURSDAY 19th JULY As usual there will be a leavers’ service in St Matthew’s Church, Westnewton at 9am.
