1) the necessity of urging establishment of L/C
如果在出口合同中买卖双方约定采用信用证方式，
买方应严格按照合同的规定按时开立信用证，这是
卖方履约的前提。但在实际业务中，有时国外进口
商在市场发生变化或资金发生短缺的情况时，往往
会拖延开证。对此，我们应催促对方迅速办理开证
手续。特别是大宗商品交易或买方要求而特制的商
品交易，更应结合备货情况及时进行催证。
2) Introduction of amendment of L/C
The exporter will check if the terms will
be acceptable after they have received the
L/C opened by importer. If there are some
errors in the L/C, the exporter will write to
ask the importer to amend L/C. If not, the
documents presented by the exporter will be
not in accordance with the L/C. Therefore
the exporter will run the risk of his draft
being dishonored by the bank.
3) Introduction of extension of L/C
1) 出口商要想安全收汇，必须满足信用证的
条款要求，而信用证的装运期和有效期是
信用证条款中最基本的要素。
2) 船务方面的情况：如舱位已满，外贸单位
无法订到信用证装期内的船舱；交通方面
的情况：从工厂运往装运码头的卡车被堵
在公路上，错过了所定货船的装船日期，
因而外贸单位不能在信用证的装运期内出
运货物；工厂生产方面的情况：如工厂所
进原料延误的原因，不能按期交货等等.

Sample letter:
Dear Sirs,
While we thank you for your L/C No.200345 issued
by ABC Bank, we regret to say that we have found
some discrepancies after examining it carefully.
You are, therefore, requested to make the
following amendment:
1. The amount both in figures and in words
should respectively read “GBP14750(Say British
Pounds Fourteen Thousand Seven Hundred And
Fifty Only)”;
2. “From Copenhagen to China port” should
read “From China port to Copenhagen”;
3. The Bill of Lading should be marked “Freight
Prepaid” instead of “Freight Collect”;
4.Delete the clause “Partial shipments and
transshipment prohibited”;
5.Insert the word “about” before the
quantity.
As our goods have been ready for shipment
for quite some time, please make the
necessary amendment as soon as possible.
